Background
There are common misconceptions about how breathing changes during pregnancy, including the notion that women take in less air per breath due to the fetus restricting movement of the diaphragm.
New approach
An animation comparing breathing patterns and anatomy in pregant and non-pregnant women (see figure) shows the changes in a dynamic fashion. In addition, the 'SHOW ME' element at the lower left of the figure provides a narrated animation explaining the diagram. Use of simultaneous auditory and visual explanation (versus a single mode) may enhance information processing and lead to better retention and recall/transfer of information.
